I then did the only other thing that I could do at the time, which was to bring it to my friend’s house because his dad is terrific with technology.

When I brought my laptop over, my friends dad turned it on and let it boot up. Immediately I heard that awful sound of death approaching my computer, and started to get scared that I would be leaving his house with no more laptop. After a while of letting it sit, the noise slowed down but it was still there. My buddy’s dad looked at me and asked what I had done to it just recently, if I installed or downloaded anything. I said no because up until that moment the only thing I really did on my laptop was homework and surf the web.

It ultimately came out that I usually charge my iPod using the iPhone charger and on occasion, I let it charge over night. Well, I had learned that because of this I ended up overheating my laptop. I never knew that it was possible to do that just because of your iPhone charger. This resulted in my laptop needing to go out of commission but it damaged my iPhone case. I’m just glad I didn’t damage my iPad dock that I’ve used for charging my iPod, too. Don’t let this awful situation happen to you. Here’s The Tale, Of A Person Named Todora

Hello world, my name is Dennis Todora. I'm the Deviser of qwik-keyz and I want to share the tale as to how qwik-keyz came to life.

Roughly a year ago I was sitting in my living room with my child Grace talking about Apple’s iPhone. Me, my other half and both children all have iPhones, so it’s common for us to chat about it and all it’s features. Since the iPhone came out I have definitely fallen madly in love with this machine however I always appear to miss that tactile feel of the keypad that older smartphones have. Without regard for the many new features and uses of the iPhone, I always came back to, “I miss the keyboard on a phone”.

The reality is, most people tend to complain about something and leave it at that, you know? As an example, I don’t like this or that about about the telephone, and then we continue watching American Idol. This time it was pretty different. Grace and I began to speak about how it might look and what we would design.

We marched right out into the garage and grabbed my drill, a 2×4 piece of lumber, and a paper cutout of the face of the iPhone. I began drilling holes, laid a piece of plastic over the holes, and went on to use a heated nail to bump bumps thru. It had been a crude prototype to say the least, but seriously folks, it felt great to take a complaint about something and channel that into innovation. Presto! Qwik-keyz was born.

At the time I was totally doubtful in regards to what the way ahead for this product was, or if anybody would even like it. I moved forward by having a die cut made and had some prototypes produced. I commenced passing them out to mates. The general response was ‘incredibly ‘ positive. Folk began asking where they can buy one, or if they can get a prototype. It was not that simple. There was no budget and we knew we required a cleaner, crisper prototype, which suggested a new die cut. Well people, those are not inexpensive. We tossed around some options on the way to produce and launch this product and finally concluded that Kickstarter would be our best shot at getting these out to the general public.

It is now over 12 months later and we are poised to launch our Kickstarter campaign in a case of days. This made the most sense as a method to bring our idea to fruition. During the last 12 months, I built a team of great folk to aid in making this happen. Mike Porter, Fran Greelis, and T.J. McLeod complete the team bringing expertise in graphics, promoting, PR, and communication. My two youngsters, Grace and Dominic have also been closely concerned with the process. We presently have a patent pending product with several different colours and an entirely developed version for the iPhone. On getting financed, we intend to add all smartphone’s with touchscreens and pursue one for the iPad as well.
